Brody's First Birthday Party

We had my son’s FIRST birthday party this past weekend! Despite the rainy weather, it turned out to be a great party. It was a Halloween costume party theme & everyone went all out with their costumes, it was so fun! It was a long week of party prep, but always worth it. I love hosting parties! My husband...not so much but he's a trooper and just goes with it! I went a little balloon crazy and was able to capture some pictures of the outside decorations before the monsoon (seriously, did not stop raining ALL day) hit us. Such a BUMMER, but oh well. Here are some pictures from the party!

My homemade balloon arch/garland...took a long time!

SURPRISE WE'RE PREGNANT!

SURPRISE!!!! Not only is it hard to believe I’m a mom… a MOM, but now a soon to be mom to TWO little babes. My husband and I were not trying for another baby yet (the plan was to wait until Brody was closer to 1), but these are the things that keep life so exciting, right!? We are both thrilled to expand our little family sooner than planned. I wish I could relive the moment telling him the news.

Here’s how it went down… Aunt flow was weeks late, but ever since my son was born my body has still been a little off track so I didn’t think too much of it. The only reason I suspected this time was different because I was feeling a little nauseous here and there. My nausea was never to the point of vomiting, but enough for me to think twice. The day I went to buy the pregnancy tests, I tried so hard waiting for my husband to get home from work…BUT I COULDN’T! He was only about 20 minutes away, but it still felt like hours. He had no idea I went to get the test or that I was planning on taking one. I couldn't wait any longer and took the test without him; an immediate plus sign popped up. I was in complete awe and my 8 month old at the time was just staring at me like wtf mom. SO many emotions happy, excited and scared shitless all at the same time. We went outside to wait for Don to get home. I had a beer opened, poured and ready to hand him and a mini glass of wine for me (shh)! My son in one arm and the pregnancy test in the other! I wish I had taken a video so I could watch it over and over (I'll keep that in mind for next baby), but this picture gives me all the feels too. Cheers to my soon to be family of 4! Bring on the little babes.

Now the question is…to find out or to not find out?!?!?!

BRODY'S BIRTH STORY

Before I update about baby #2, I figured I would share a little about my son Brody’s entrance into the world!
Overall I’d say my pregnancy was fairly smooth sailing, with some MINOR bumps along the way. I felt totally great the entire time, no nausea, morning sickness, or anything along those lines. My only complaint was headaches, which subsided come second trimester. However, things slightly changed around week 20 when I started experiencing pain from walking, standing, sitting, getting in and out of the car, you name it-it was awful! My pelvic bone would also make a popping noise every morning once I stood up, which I knew wasn’t normal. Of course I did what everyone said NOT to do, Google searched my symptoms. I came across Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (Say Whaaaat?) Yea, so I called my doctor and explained my symptoms to find out my self diagnosis was correct. Those that have no idea what that means (neither did I), it’s basically when your pelvic bone and ligaments loosen too soon in pregnancy, leaving you in severe pain. Everything becomes out of place. Unfortunately there are not too many things you can do to help with the pain. Some things I tried were a belly band (which did help a lot when walking/standing), heating pad, and small exercises to strengthen my body. Aside from that, I really do mean it when I say it was smooth sailing!

…Until my 32 week ultrasound. This appointment was to check baby and make sure baby was head down ready to go. However I went in to find out baby was in breech position, but not to worry too much because there was still a chance he would flip. I kind of suspected this since any movement from the baby I always felt so low. When the baby kicked, it basically felt like a twitch (hard twitch) in my booty, yeah…really weird. I left my appointment in such disappointment. I felt upset with myself and my body.
Of course I immediately Google search ‘ways to flip baby.’ I would lie on an ironing board upside down, yoga, headstands in the pool, warm bath with an icepack on top of my belly, honestly anything I read I tried. I heard great success stories with the chiropractor flipping a breech baby so I was going about 3-4x a week. I had no control over my body; it was so hard to accept.

Next appointment was my 36-week, which was another ultrasound to see if baby flipped. My itital appointment was on a Friday, but the Thursday before I felt cramping and noticed some spotting so I decided to call my doctor. They had me come in Thursday evening (THANK GOD) to check things out and make sure everything was good. My husband was at work and I didn't want to go alone so I had my mom come with me. Had the ultrasound to see baby was still breech. Met with my doctor who was very blunt (which I needed) and told me I was 3cm dilated, 90% effaced and that I was having the baby this weekend, via C-section. I was sent to Labor and Delivery to have a stress test done for 4 hours. My husband came as soon as he could. He showed up with our hospital bag and basically all the nurses laughed (they were planning on sending us home). BUT...Four hours later, my water broke and it was go time!! AHHH that was so crazy, seriously like nothing I had imagined. With my husband by my side every second he could be, I was wheeled into the operating room and 30 minutes later our beautiful baby BOY was born.
